Transforming Lives with Skills Training

Employment

The Junior League of Fort Worth, Texas, Incorporated. (JLFW) is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. They have been a strong supporter of The Women’s Center for over 40 years.

This year, The Women’s Center was fortunate to be a recipient of an $80,000 grant awarded by JLFW. The generosity of this organization allowed 19 participants in our Employment Solutions Program to take advantage of valuable, targeted career skills training programs in a variety of industries, including IT, healthcare and logistics. This training helps women transition their careers or build new careers that create financial stability for their families.

In 2023, 15.3% of children in Tarrant County lived in poverty. Most of those children are raised in single, female heads of households. Our Employment Solutions Program is committed to helping change those statistics by empowering women to overcome poverty—helping them develop the skills they need to secure jobs, earn a sustainable wage and improve their financial health.

Shon is one of the clients who participated in the skills training program. Before receiving her medical assistant certification, she was working a low wage job with no benefits. “My career coach and my teacher in the training class gave me the confidence and showed me that I could go to different positions and move in different ways. It was awesome. If you want to take your life to the next step, if you feel like you’re stuck and there’s no one there to help you, they are there to help you,” said Shon.

With the help of organizations like JLFW, we are transforming the lives of people in Tarrant County – creating a community of strong and empowered women and families.
