PEARLS
Turning Isolation into Independence
166 Older Adults Served in 2023
- Approximately 7 million American adults over the age of 65 experience depression each year.
- Depression can appear as sadness, frustration, loneliness, or loss of interest in activities someone once loved.
PEARLS is an evidenced-based treatment program for older adults designed to significantly reduce depressive symptoms and help them develop the skills needed for self-sufficiency and independence, so they can lead more emotionally fulfilling and active lives.
What is PEARLS?
PEARLS is provided at no cost to Tarrant County residents who are 60+. Through in-home coaching visits, women and men develop the tools to manage mild depression, improve social connections and encourage positive thinking. PEARLS coaches meet one-on-one with older adults for six to eight one-hour sessions, typically over the course of four to five months, beginning with weekly sessions that gradually taper to monthly. Each session is focused on identifying challenges, setting goals and working towards solutions.
PEARLS Connect
PEARLS clients have the opportunity to fellowship with other program participants through PEARLS Connect, which host social events and provides social support. This gives older adults the opportunity to remain active and connected once their individual coaching sessions are complete. The continued social opportunities help maintain or further reduce depressive symptoms.
